Why Use Tupai Instead of Other AI Tools for Maths?
It’s 10pm, and your child is stuck on a Form 4 math question about quadratic functions. Any AI chatbot could give them the full answer in a few seconds, and the homework would be done. But when exam day comes, there won’t be a chatbot in the exam hall.
That’s the real difference between an AI that answers math questions and one designed to help your child understand them. Tupai was built for the second job, and in this article, we’ll walk you through exactly what that means for your family.
Key summary:
- Tupai is built for maths, and it’s 100% curriculum aligned. It covers KSSR, KSSM, and Cambridge IGCSE, while other general AI tools are designed to cover everything.
- Tupai explains why each step works, so your child understands the logic behind the math, so they can tackle the next question on their own.
- Tupai adjusts to each child’s own learning pace, so their study time goes where it’s needed most.
- Tupai Parent app shows you where your child is stuck, so you know what is their learning progress. General AI tools don’t have real-time performance visibility.
Key takeaway: Any AI tool can give your child an answer, but Tupai helps them understand it, while keeping you in the loop.
How is Tupai different from other AI tools?
Tupai is an AI maths tutoring app that is 100% aligned to your child’s school’s syllabus. It comes as two connected apps: Tupai, an math tutoring app where your child learns, and Tupai Parent, a parent companion app where you can follow their progress. On the other hand, General AI chatbots are designed to provide quick answers to a problem.
| General AI chatbots | Tupai apps | |
| Built for | Any subject for any user | Maths for primary and secondary students |
| Syllabus coverage | General knowledge | 100% aligned to KSSR, KSSM, and IGCSE math syllabus |
| How it helps | Gives full answer immediately | Breaking down each step and why it works |
| Personalization | Treats each question on its own | Adjusts to your child’s learning pace based on their responses |
| For parents | No visibility | Topic-by-topic progress report in plain language, with the option to assign practice |
| App Availability | 24/7 | 24/7 |
Five reasons families choose Tupai for maths
1. Tupai follows the syllabus your child is actually learning
Tupai is aligned to KSSR, KSSM, and IGCSE Maths. That means the methods and steps your child practices at home match what their teacher uses in class, and what examiners look for in SPM or IGCSE.
Under KSSM, the learning standards for every subject, including Mathematics, are set out in the Ministry of Education’s DSKP documents. [2] A general AI tool may solve a question correctly, but with a method or terms your child’s teacher doesn’t use. That can leave your child with two different approaches to the same problem, and less confidence in both.
With Tupai, what your child practices at home lines up with what they’ll see in the exam hall.
2. Tupai explains why, so your child can solve the next question independently
When your child is stuck, Tupai guides them through the question one step at a time and explains why each step works. They can ask “but why?” as often as they need to, without feeling judged or rushed. Whereas general AI chatbots gives immediate answers, allowing minimal chance for the student to try solve the question on their own before getting answers. [1]
3. Tupai adapts to where your child is at
Tupai notices which topics your child struggles with and help them spend more time there. The app is designed to teach your child where they are at, and progressively increase the lesson difficulty so that they can gradually learn without feeling overwhelmed.
4. Tupai Parent gives you visibility and support
Tupai Parent gives you a simple report of your child’s progress, topic by topic, so you know what is their strength and weaknesses. With clear visibility on their progress, you can know how to better support them where they are at — by conversation, providing specific math topic practices or download a guided exam paper for them to try.
General AI tools don’t have this. With Tupai Parent, you’ll know which topics need work long before the report card comes home. And instead of “Dah siap homework?”, you can ask, “How are you finding probability?”
5. Parents can help, even without knowing the latest math syllabus
If the report shows a topic needs work, you can assign practice on it. Tupai (student) then guides your child through it.
This follow-up matters. A big review of 77 studies found that technology helps maths learning most when it supports problem-solving and understanding, and help less when it only tracks progress without any follow-up. [3] Seeing where your child is stuck is good. Doing something about it is even better.
What results have families seen with Tupai?
61% of secondary students in our cohort improved their scores. [4] That progress belongs to the students who worked for it.

Is Tupai the right fit for your family?
Tupai helps most when your child gets stuck and wants to understand, not just finish, and when you’d like to see their progress without having to relearn the syllabus yourself.
If your child is already confident and rarely needs help, they may not need it every day, and that’s okay. Tupai is there whenever a tricky topic comes up.
Tupai isn’t here to replace teachers or tuition, either. Think of it as the support that’s available between classes, when your child has a question and no one else is around to help.
We’ll also be upfront: Tupai is AI, and no AI is perfect. That’s exactly why we focus on understanding. A student who knows why a step works is also the student most likely to notice when something doesn’t look right.
